While keeping the book lively and amusing, David Platt brings to us an interesting
write-up on what .NET is - at least what it means to developers. The tome covers
many topics including those have up to now have been difficult to find info about.
He covers the essentials like ASP.NET, Web Services, WinForms, etc… while
taking some potshots at Microsoft. He also talks about how to handle COM objects
from .NET projects and vice versa, how .NET objects will live in Application
Servers such as COM+ or MTS. However, this is not a book for you, if you are
looking to learn everything there is about .NET. The book merely gives the
10,000-foot view. You'll learn a lot, though. At $23.99 (Amazon) it is a great deal.
The bottom line is the book is very informative and very readable.
I read the entire thing in 2 days.
