Windows Server 2003 Security A Technical Reference, is a refreshing, look from an author who has clearly been there, and done that. While reading I almost felt as if I was attending one on one training sessions with the author. It is amazing how truly deep you can drill down to secure your network environment. Not being a Network Administrator I did find myself rereading some sections a few times over before finally feeling comfortable enough to move on. When I did get a little lost with the details I just stepped back to look at the big picture, and moved along. Sometimes the material would seem to explain itself out as I would read the next few pages, and others it may take a whole knew chapter to give me the insight needed to go back to where things got hazy. I do believe I was warned about that in the preface of the book though.

This book does not read like most Microsoft Server books. Most books on Microsoft topics come from someone who gives a step by step approach which in ways leave us all to just do as instructed rather than understand what we are doing. The author seems to explain what it is you are doing before you do it and helps you to realize their are more ways than the one she goes into depth explaining, allowing you to do further research on the other methods. All in all I felt I learned quite a bit from this book. I look forward to seeing more books from this author.
