Think of the first part as a regular tutorial-style book that explores various topics such as forms, how to build controls, menus, toolbars, layout, localization, inheritance, visual inheritance, extenders, data binding, etc…
The second part is essentially a desktop reference as advertised. It is pretty useful as it is. But it has a cool feature where the entire reference is placed on the CD. You can the install the reference onto your PC and it integrates with the existing VS.NET help. So as you type and dynamic help display results, the O'Reilly results will be there too. I think that is cool.
Overall, if you are doing desktop apps, this book will provide you an arm-chair helper well worth the money.
